Dear iconography readers,
What a pleasure of participating in a great iconography project and contributing to its fulfillment. To make this clear, a small group of students took part in a state-of-the-art icon project by helping the master’s work.
• Mission: Icon canvas placing in the church
• Place: The Church of the Assumption of the Lord, Theodorakeion, Pella, Greece
• Date: July 2016
• Number of Participants: 4
At last, this 7-year-old project is coming to the end. Thanks to our master, we had the opportunity to become “brave”, meaning that we went from the artistic step –iconography art– to a more technical one –placing icon canvas on the walls of a church–.
So impressive was the fact that the “coach” kept his students in alert in an extremely unique way. The team was working in harmony for many hours. Finally, the whole procedure was carried out successfully. What a relief and joy about the outstanding artwork which has covered many years to be done until now.
At this point, it’s essential to focus on the fact that our master covered every piece of wall, every sqcm of the church with an abundance of saints and holy scenes, some of which are rarely depicted, in contrast with other Greek orthodox churches. Contemporary saints gain the impressions, such as st. Paisios, st. Porfyrios and Iakovos Tsalikis and also scenes such as the Epitaph of the Lord which depict the holy drama in details.
Many congratulations to our art father’s exceptional work, his love and dedication to the byzantine iconography art and the transmission of his knowledge to the next generation of iconographers. Hope to keep his advice and continue his intact work. Having such an experience from my early age as an icon artist and as a follower of Dragan Pantelic Art, this makes me insist with passion and become more dedicated to serve the Icon Art.
P.S. Best wishes to a great iconographer, Dragan Pantelic.
